A Small Biography:
(Many thanks to Gail Dayton for giving me excerpts from her interview with Spencer! Can't WAIT
to see what she works up with all her info!)
Spencer Wilding was born in St. Asaph, Wales on July 26, 1972 and now lives in Rhyls, Wales. He is currently living in
Prestatyn, UK. He's a big guy, measuring in at 6 foot 7 inches (2 metres) and weighs in at at a sound
203 lbs. (14.5 stones)(92 kilos). And for those who have asked, get out your tape measures!
Just to give you an idea of his size, here's a few stats:
Waist: 34 ins
Chest: 46 ins
Inside Leg: 36 ins
A few interesting facts: He attended Ysgol Mair in Rhyl then Prestatyn High School in Denbighshire.
Then it was on to study agricultural mechanics at Llysfasi College in Ruthin.
From there he took a series of jobs including working on building sites as a construction worker in Holland.
"Big Spen" started kickboxing when he was 24, mostly for the training, hoping to put some
weight on. (He was 6'7", 175 lbs, 12-1/2 stone at the time). It worked. His trainers asked
whether he wanted to actually compete, and since he thought he could do well in
competition, he agreed. His first fight was in 1995, in the city of Chester, and
his opponent went down in the second round. Twelve fights later, he was the Welsh and British
Kickboxing Champion.
After five years of kickboxing, he was doing some training in Chester where
he was asked whether he was interested in professional boxing. He was 29, considered
too old to be beginning with pro boxing, but decided to "give it a go". Two and a half
years later, he had three wins and one draw, moving up to number 14 in the British rankings.
Spencer is now the current undefeated British (Welsh) Kickboxing and Boxing Champion.
He's a brave man, teaching Kickboxing to 4-10 year olds once a week back home, and a
terribly soft-hearted Welshman, (at least outside the ring), and while most people would
like to be intimidated by him, it's fairly tricky (again, at least outside of the
ring). Just be sure if you want to talk to him, (and you're one of the vertically-
challenged, like us) grab a table. It will help with eye contact if you stand on it whilst conversing.
Be very, very careful when he's on an acting job, though, as he will
scare the pants off of you, because he's also very good at being completely tough
and frightening. Once the shooting is done for the day, though, we hear he can be easily calmed
with a pint or two.
Spen (or Big Spen, take your pick as he likes to be called either) is in the process of
giving an interview concerning his part in "Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban", his
boxing and kickboxing careers, playing Vogon #1 in "The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy",
his parts in the recently completed "Beowulf & Grendel" movie by Director Sturla
Gunnarsson and Writer Andrew Rai Berzins in Iceland, and life in general. If you have
any questions of your own, please send them to the Webmaster and I'll pass them onto
the interviewer.
He can be contacted through his email link on the site for any possible jobs, and is available
world-wide. Speaking for myself and his fans, we're kind of wondering why he wasn't in "Underworld
Evolution" as a Lycan, but hey, there's always "Underworld 3".... Look for him in the upcomming
movie, "Batman Begins" as one of Liam Nissen's boys, and in "Hitchhiker's Guide To The Galaxy"
as Vogon #1. We aren't sure when "Dead Man's Cards" will be released, but we are attempting to
get information on the movie from the director. Hopefully, we'll be bringing you news soon!
